Sole Hope
My service learning is very spread out. I volunteer with Key Club, mentors and other outside locations. My service learning that was most significant to my capstone was Sole Hope.
Sole Hope is an organization that makes shoes from jeans for children who do not have them in Uganda. These shoes mainly benefit the children by preventing them from getting jiggers. Jiggers are insects that make burrows in the feet and lay eggs producing more of the jiggers. They create wounds and this causes infections and diseases. A simple solution to this problem would be to give them shoes.
The actual service involved going to the cutting parties. At the cutting parties there are templates to cut the donated jeans for them to be made into shoes. Once all the jeans are cut into proper pieces they are then cut again for more precise cutting. After this, they are sent to be sewn together and made into shows then sent to Uganda on the children's feet.
